T4/T3 Capsules for Thyroid Issues

What are T4/T3 Capsules?

Thyroid stimulating hormones (TSH) helps your thyroid glands release T4 and T3, both that are in T4/T3 capsules. T4 handles your mood, metabolism, and body temperature. T3 is also made in the thyroid gland, as well as in other tissues and focuses on your digestive and metabolic function, along with bone health.

Those suffering from hypothyroidism may benefit from T4/T3 capsules. Unlike hyperthyroidism, which is characterized by high or surging thyroid levels, hypothyroidism results from low thyroid levels. The amount of stimulation that T4 and T3 inside thyroid capsules give thyroid levels in patients a boost.

Hypothyroidism signs and symptoms may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation
  • Dry skin
  • Weight gain
  • Puffy face
  • Hoarseness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Elevated blood cholesterol level
  • Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
  • Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
  • Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
  • Thinning hair
  • Slowed heart rate
  • Depression
  • Impaired memory
  • Enlarged thyroid gland (goiter)

Endocrine 66. 2019:70–78. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12020-019-02052-2. Accessed February 2, 2022.

Abstract:

Guidelines on T4 + T3 combination therapy were published in 2012. This review investigates whether the issue is better understood 7 years later. Dissatisfaction with the outcome of T4 monotherapy remains high. Persistent symptoms consist mostly of fatigue, weight gain, problems with memory and thinking and mood disturbances. T4 monotherapy is associated with low serum T3 levels, which often require TSH-suppressive doses of L-T4 for normalization.

Abstract:

Purpose: The standard treatment of hypothyroidism is levothyroxine (LT4), which is available as tablets or soft-gel capsules in Denmark. This study aimed to investigate Danish endocrinologists’ use of thyroid hormones in hypothyroid and euthyroid patients.

Methods: An e-mail with an invitation to participate in an online survey investigating practices about substitution with thyroid hormones was sent to all members of the Danish Endocrine Society (DES).

Abstract:

Introduction: Studies comparing levothyroxine (LT4) therapy with LT4 + liothyronine (LT3) or desiccated thyroid extract (DTE) did not detect consistent superiority of either treatment. Here, we investigated these therapies, focusing on the whole group of LT4-treated hypothyroid patients, while also exploring the most symptomatic patients.
